Today was a travel day for me, between places. I was moving on to a little beach village south of Sydney called Bronte. It’s just a stone’s throw from Bondi Beach, but without the laddishness and backpacker community. Quiet and quaint, exactly the kind of place I like.
My friends Jane, Jason and Alisha drove us to North Head which looks out over the City, for a quick photo or two (as we were running late for my ferry!) and then I headed to Manly Wharf to get my ferry to Watson’s Bay. Bronte is quite off the beaten track, so it’s quite a bitch to get to on public transport, but I got there! One ferry and two buses later. A little mini adventure haha!
I was really sad to say goodbye to Jane & Jason, I hadn’t seen Jane for around 10 years before I landed here on Tuesday, and it’s been so good to spend some time together! We’ve known each other since I was 2 years old! I will be coming back next year for sure – apparently I got a 10 rating as a house guest – so I reckon they’ll have me back! Next year I plan to come back in October, for whale season. I’ve never seen whales in real life before so that’ll be amazing!
So I found my little AirB&B place in Bronte quite easily. I’m living with the landlady in a lovely big garden house about 5 minutes walk from the beach. AirB&B really is amazing for renting places like this. Incredible. The house is REALLY retro and eclectic – the host Diane is both of these things too. I’ve only had a brief conversation with her but she seems really lovely. They invited me out for dinner tonight but I’m so full from lunch that I declined, plus I need some time to re-charge too. I had grilled barramundi for lunch today. I reckon I’ll probably eat grilled fish most days here, it’s incredible!
I also had two beers with lunch, walked home and collapsed on my bed for two hours! Might’ve been a bit of a bad decision there, considering my jet lag is STILL hanging around and I’m now wide awake!
I’m looking forward to two days here in Bronte before I fly to Auckland on Wednesday afternoon. Tomorrow, I’m planning a morning at the beach and an afternoon at Bondi Junction (shopping centre). I’ll take the bus there, it’s only 15 minutes away. Then on Tuesday I’m meeting up with my landlady from my house in Bondi when I lived here, which will be amazing! Looking forward to the next couple of days of chill, it’s much needed after being non stop since I got here…
One thing that I have really been thinking about today is how these last few days have really forced me to just STOP and APPRECIATE my journey. For a couple of reasons… the first being that despite going through depression and anxiety, I’m still managing to do everything I had planned, albeit at a slightly slower pace than I normally would. I still spend too much time beating myself up when I’m not feeling 100%, but today I have sat back and looked at what I’ve done so far, and I’m really proud of myself. Secondly, I am focusing on not taking anything for granted here. The views, the stunning weather, the beaches, my friends – everything. I am very fortunate to be here, and I intend to fully appreciate every single moment.
