One thing I absolutely LOVE doing when travelling, is heading out in the morning with no real plans – and that’s exactly what I did yesterday morning. I haven’t actually been feeling very well for the last 2-3 days, so I’ve had to take each day as it comes and just see how I feel. I think it’s a combination of jet lag from travelling back and forth through time zones, a change to my regular diet and heightened anxiety. Either way, I’m happy to just go with the flow and relax a little.
I arrived in Mooloolah Valley, Sunshine Coast, QLD very late on Wednesday night after a relatively smooth journey from Auckland. The flight with Virgin Australia was good, and because we arrived quite late it meant that customs was a breeze compared to normal. I picked up my rental car and made my way up the highway to my friends house. I hadn’t seen Carmen & Jeff for a VERY long time, almost 9 years – but it was like I’d never been away. They have a stunning house in a beautiful little township, it’s very relaxing here. I’ve been enjoying having my breakfast outside in the sunshine each morning, it is much hotter here than it was in Sydney or Auckland. Hitting 31-32 degrees each day and very humid – I’m loving it!
On Thursday I met up with the wonderful Kate Fitzpatrick of Pinkfitz – we went to a cool place called Kunara Organics which is an organic supermarket, garden centre and restaurant. To be honest, I wasn’t feeling very well at all on Thursday, so we didn’t stay too long. I had some very sad news about my dog Roxy on Thursday morning, so I was feeling quite sad and had a pounding headache! It was lovely to finally meet Kate though after years of working online together! That night, I cooked dinner for my friends Carmen & Jeff and we caught up on a few years worth of absence! I definitely will not leave it as long again!
So yesterday morning I decided I wanted to spend the morning on the beach, so that is exactly what I did. I drove to a lovely beach called Kings Beach in Caloundra, which had a really nice vibe to it. The town of Caloundra has a very relaxed feel to it and is full of fresh food shops and cafes so eating was easy. There was a Paleo restaurant there too which I think I’ll go back to and try when I’m feeling a bit more myself. So I lay on the beach and read my book for a few hours, had a swim in the ocean (which was lovely and warm) and just took it easy. While I was lying on the beach I saw a little poster advertising a seafood market, which was a coincidence because I had been looking for somewhere to buy some fresh fish! So off I went and found the place, bought some fresh barramundi for dinner that night and also had some amazing salt & pepper squid for lunch – it was delish!
I headed home for a bit to recharge and grab a coffee before heading back out in the afternoon. I wanted to do some walking, and also wanted to head into the Glass House Mountains National Park for a look around, so I popped a rough post code into my GPS and off I went again. The drive up into the mountains was absolutely amazing! I drove through lots of little quaint villages and farms on my way there, and it was really interesting because you could stop at the side of the road, next to the farms, and pick up their fresh produce on the way! They have their produce out at the front of their road, and an honesty box where you just put your money in. They grown pineapples here by the shitload, and I have bought a few too many. I now have far too many pineapples! Oops.
I drove up to the Lookout point and spent quite a bit of time here taking photos and just breathing in the view. I don’t like rushing these things, I prefer just to take time to see everything with my eyes before I take photographs. I did a little bush walk too that was only 1km but it was really nice and went right into the forest. There were lots of bugs and critters though which freaked me out slightly – I got bitten quite a lot… but thankfully no spiders or snakes appeared!
A night of chilling was in order, so boring as it sounds, I cooked myself some dinner, had a beer, watched some Netflix and was out cold by 9pm! A busy day ahead today so it was well called for…
