I’ll start where I left off yesterday – Crossfit. After the epic thunderstorm subsided yesterday afternoon, I headed out to my first Aussie Crossfit WOD at a box called Crossfit Strenue, located in Dee Why – just one suburb south from where I am staying in Collaroy.
Coach Brandon was really welcoming, as were the members, which was awesome. Everybody is so friendly here. The WOD was:
15 E2MOM:
5 Deadlifts (65%)
with 10 OTB Burpees after each set.
then
400m Run (Buy in)
3 rounds of 12 push press and 12 box jumps (30kg/20″)
400m Run (Buy Out)
A pretty straight forward WOD to be honest, but my body really struggled in the heat! Still Rx’d the workout though… it was fun!
Coach Brandon was kind enough to give me a lift home, where I quickly showered, changed and headed to meet my friends in a pub called The Collaroy – just 10 minutes walk from the apartment. We had an amazing dinner of salt & pepper squid, raw kingfish & scallops with lime & coriander followed by a huge sirloin steak, it was AMAZING. Just what I needed after such an active day in the City. Think I hit almost 22,500 steps on my Fitbit yesterday. I needed ALL the protein!
Today has definitely been the best day I’ve had since I got here, by far! Don’t get me wrong, I have absolutely loved every minute of my time here in the Northern Beaches of Sydney – but today was just amazing! I started the day with a long walk along the beach to Narrabeen, and did a few FaceTime calls with clients from the beach. Late morning, my friends Jason and Jane took me a big drive through Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park, which is located slightly North West from where I’m staying. It was absolutely incredible. It confirmed to me exactly what I want to focus on for the rest of my trip – and that is spending as much time outside in nature as possible. Yes I love the City too, but nowhere near as much as I love being by the ocean, or walking, hiking, climbing and spending time in the fresh air. We started our tour of the National Park at Akuna Bay, then drove to a stunning lookout called West Head, where the views were incredible…
After we left West Head, we drove back down the bay and up to a suburb called Palm Beach, probably better known as ‘Summer Bay’ from Australian soap ‘Home and Away’. I’ve been to Palm Beach two or three times before, but I still love it every time I go! I used to be OBSESSED with Home & Away when I was younger, so it always has a novelty. We we to a stunning restaurant right on on the water called The Boathouse and had fish and chips (beer battered flathead) – I was SO ready for this! Utterly starving after walking loads again.
After finishing our food at The Boathouse, we walked along to the beach and took some photos outside the surf life saving club. Had to be done!
Tonight involves eating kangaroo, I’ll let you know how that goes…!
